Reconstruction of two east-west alleys in Downtown Ames will begin the week of August 12. The alleys affected are from Kellogg Avenue to Burnett Avenue between Main Street and Fifth Street, and from Duff Avenue to Douglas Avenue between Main Street and Fifth Street. All or portions of each alley will be closed to all traffic at various times throughout the project duration. Sidewalks at the alley approaches may also be closed at times during the project.
The City has contracted with Con-Struct to complete this reconstruction. The existing alley pavement will be removed and replaced with new 7-inch concrete pavement. Some storm sewer intake improvements will also take place. Reconstruction of the alleys is expected to be completed within two to three months.
All are encouraged to take note of construction activity and exercise caution when traveling near the construction area. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
