Assistant City Manager Bob Kindred Retirement Reception is April 1
The public is welcome to attend a reception for retiring Assistant City Manager Bob Kindred. The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 1, in the Community Center Gym, 515 Clark Ave. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a program at 3 p.m.
Kindred is retiring after 38 years of service with the City of Ames. A California native, he earned his bachelor’s degree and Master of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University. Kindred began his career with the City of Ames in 1980 as the Budget Analyst. He was promoted to Assistant to the City Manager in 1985, and became the Assistant City Manager in 1989.
“Bob’s commitment to providing exceptional service to the citizens of Ames and his leadership as a City of Ames employee will be missed,” said City Manager Steve Schainker, who has worked with Kindred for most of his nearly four-decade career with the City. “It has been my pleasure working with such a dedicated professional.”
As Assistant City Manager, Kindred oversees Electric, Fire, Human Resources, Planning and Housing, Police, Public Works, and Water and Pollution Control departments. He provides staff support to City of Ames boards and commissions; develops and administers policies, programs, and projects; reviews departmental budget requests; and serves as acting City Manager when required. A search is underway for a new Assistant City Manager.
