Post Date:01/03/2019 11:00 AM

The Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act converts the long-standing Surface Transportation Program (STP) into the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG). This program has the most flexible eligibility among all Federal-aid highway programs. The STBG promotes flexibility in State and local transportation decisions and provides flexible funding to best address State and local transportation needs.

The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) administers the STBG regional program for areas within the Ames-Gilbert planning area. To apply for these funds, project sponsors must submit an application to the Ames Area MPO by March 31, 2019. The application for the STBG program are available on the Transportation Improvement Program webpage.

Projects which received Federal funding are required to be in the regional Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The current LRTP is known as Ames Mobility 2040 and was adopted by the MPO Policy Committee in late 2015. Successful applications will be included in the Fiscal Year 2020-2023 Transportation Improvement Program, which will be approved in the Summer of 2019. For additional information, contact Tony Filippini, AICP, Transportation Planner at (515) 239-5169 or at tfilippini@city.ames.ia.us. Applications can be sent to the Ames Area MPO via e-mail by the deadline of March 31, 2019.
