North and southbound traffic on Duff Avenue between Seventh and Eighth streets will be reduced to two lanes beginning Tuesday, Aug. 14, to facilitate tree removal on the east side of Duff Avenue. These lane closures are expected to last through Wednesday, Aug. 15.
On Thursday, Aug. 16, the north and southbound traffic along Duff Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets will be reduced to two lanes to facilitate tree removal on the west side of Duff Avenue. This tree work is expected to be completed by the end of the day Thursday, weather dependent.
All trees between the blocks of Seventh and Ninth Streets on Duff Avenue were assessed recently for safety and stability by several tree experts. It was determined eight trees need to be removed for the safety of the residents living adjacent to the trees, as well as the pedestrians and vehicles that travel through that area.
“It is unfortunate the trees have to be removed, but their declining condition makes it necessary to ensure the safety of our residents. We will replant trees in or near the locations of where the trees will be removed sometime this fall,” said Paul Tauke, City Forester with the Ames Parks and Recreation Department.
The Parks and Recreation Department manages 36 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional and wellness programs. Indoor programs are offered year round at the Community Center, Ames/ISU Ice Arena, and Municipal Pool.
