The Ames Parks and Recreation Community Center is a full service facility consisting of the Ames City Auditorium, Multi-Purpose Room, Gymnastics Room, Aerobics Room, Weight Room, Cardio Room, Locker Rooms, Parks and Recreation Office and the Community Center Gym. We offer a variety of recreation activities, classes and programs including Play Pals, SilverSneakers, Badminton, Pickle Ball, Adult and Youth Volleyball, Dance, Gymnastics, Adult and Youth Basketball, and over 50 fitness classes per week.
If just shooting around is your thing or you want to play pick-up games, this is the place to be. Drop in times for badminton and volleyball as well as basketball open gym hours are posted each month. Times vary so be sure to check the schedule available in the lobby or click th link above for this month's calendar. Prices are $2.00 for youth and $2.25 for adults (17 and up)
Play Pals indoor playground is sure to excite all the little ones! Play Pals is a fully equipped with toys beyond belief and is a great way for the little ones to meet new friends and perfect the art of sharing. Our slide, teeter-totter, cycles, wagons and other toys will keep children busy for hours. This "indoor park" is held at the Community Center Gymnasium Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM between Labor Day and Memorial Day. This is a great opportunity for moms, dads, and grandparents to bring their little ones to an indoor playground. The cost is $1.75 per child per visit. (Babies in carriers are free) Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Come and discover the benefits and enjoyment playing the Olympic sport indoors at the Community Center. This is a great activity for older adults that wish to stay active, socialize and recreate. Badminton is a sport that uses a light racquet and a birdie. Games can be played as singles or doubles. Come give it a try! Open Badminton is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Fee is $2.00 per person.
Adult Pickle Ball
Pickle Ball is a fun, racquet sport performance for all ages and abilities. Using a racquet similar to an enlarged table-tennis paddle and a perforated plastic ball the size of a tennis ball, the game is usually played on badminton courts. Play by two or four players at a time, the rules are similar to that of tennis while points are scored in the same way as in a badminton game. Players race to score 11, 15, or 21 points to win a match. Pickle Ball is held on Wednesday afternoons 1:30 - 3:30 PM and Saturday afternoons 4:30 - 6:00 PM. Pickle Ball is played indoors at the Community Center during the months of October - April. Fee is $2.00 per person. Equipment is provided.
Adult Drop In Basketball (Noon League)
Adult Basketball Noon League is a great way to get a cardio workout and some stress relief at the same time! This drop-in league is for ages 25 and up and is limited to 15 players so everyone gets a chance to play. Card holding members get preference until noon and drop in players will fill in the rest of the league. Card holders pay $67.50 for a 30 visit card. Drop-in players pay $2.00 per time. Noon Basketball is played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Warm-up starting at 11:30 and games start at noon. (No admission prior to 11:30 AM) Call us for more information at 515-239-5350.
Adult Drop In Volleyball
Drop in and play volleyball at the Community Center Gym. Cost is $2.00 per person. Nets are set up on Thursday evenings and play starts at 7:00 PM. Drop in volleyball is not held when leagues are in session so please check the facility schedule for specific dates and times.
