After a national recruitment, two finalists have been identified for the position of Transit Director with the City of Ames (CyRide) public transit system. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate so the public has a chance to meet the finalists. Former transit director Sheri Kyras retired this spring after more than 10 years of service.
The Ames public transit system, CyRide, is funded by the City of Ames, Iowa State University administration and ISU Student Government. It is run by a board of directors representing the funding agencies and riders. Under the direction of the Transit Board, the Transit Director plans, directs, coordinates, and assures the efficiency of all fiscal, operational, maintenance, and personnel activities for CyRide. CyRide operates 13 fixed routes, a Dial-A-Ride service for persons with a disability, and a late night service called Moonlight Express.
A public presentation by Barb Neal is planned for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave. Neal serves as the Interim Director of CyRide. She has worked at the transit agency since 1991. Prior to taking on the interim position, Neal has served as the Assistant Transit Director since 2016. From 2004 to 2016, Neal was the CyRide Operations Supervisor, and from 1991 to 2004, she was the Assistant Operations Supervisor from 1991 to 2004. A Neal has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Iowa State University.
