Traffic activities include managing signal systems, signs and pavement markings that regulate traffic in Ames, excluding U.S. highways and areas under the jurisdiction of Iowa State University. The traffic work group also maintains the parking system, which includes parking meters, parking lots, and regulation signs and markings. Operations of the Ames Municipal Airport are managed by the City's Traffic Engineer.
