Using a sweeping and mixing process, an endloader on the tipping floor blends the wet refuse with the dry refuse. The mixing process is extremely important because the amount of moisture in the refuse as it is burned in the utility determines the heat output (BTU) value of the fuel. This determines how much money the utility will pay for the fuel it receives.
As the driver is sweeping and mixing the pile, he works with the control room operator to arrive at a rate of infeed to the shredders that will give the equipment as much refuse as possible for processing without overloading.
After mixing, the endloader pushes refuse onto a conveyer which transports the garbage up into the shredder room and drops it nine feet to the mouth of the shredder.
