Engineering

The City of Ames Public Works Department monitors over $12 million in construction expenditures yearly.  

The Engineering Division designs, contracts and supervises reconstruction and new capital improvement projects involving streets, sidewalks, water mains, sewers and more.  
Engineering plays an integral part of the development process by:

• Reviewing and monitoring subdivision development submittals.
• Designing capital improvement projects.
• Providing project guidance by staking construction sites.
• Supervising and inspecting construction projects.
• Ensuring all construction within the City is done in accordance with policies.
• Keeping records of City infrastructure.
