The Juvenile
Division of the Ames Police Department consists of the Juvenile
Investigator and the School Resource Officer. The Juvenile
Investigator is responsible for investigating crimes against
property and crimes against people when the victim or perpetrator
involved is a juvenile.
The School Resource Officer is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, but the officer's work week is spent at the Ames High School, Ames Middle School, and the nine elementary schools in the district.
In addition to the regular duties of the Juvenile Investigator and the School Resource Officer, both regularly attend a number of community meetings and serve on several committees. These too are an important element in fostering better communication between different agencies and departments. Building relationships among police, schools, and the community can strengthen the environment in which our children grow up.
