General Information:

The City of Ames is accepting applications for this position at CyRide. Evening/weekend hours totaling 18 per week.

Essential Functions:
Performs minor servicing of vehicles; checks fluid levels such as transmission, anti-freeze, oil, and gas or fuel; adds fluids as necessary; checks tires and belts for service needed; performs minor repairs such as changing lights, mirrors, and flashers; ensures special equipment is in place such as wheelchairs and safety equipment; cleans interior and exterior of vehicles; parks and arranges buses for daily runs; completes necessary paper work concerning services performed.  Performs cleaning and minor maintenance of facilities and grounds; cleans building floors; removes snow using shovel, snow blower, or truck plow.  Monitors radio and telephone as needed.  Operates buses and other motor vehicles.  May be required to wash walls, change filters in roof units, and mow lawns. May also be required to perform maintenance of bus shelters including emptying garbage, removing old and installing new wood boards, refinishing wood boards, and replacing glass.

 

Other Job Functions: Restocks supplies; rakes lawns, paints building interior and exterior.  Assists in installing new shelters; installs and replaces bus stop signs.

Employment Qualifications:

Requires a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's license within 30 days of appointment.  CDL drivers are subject to U.S. Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing requirements.

 

No record of more than two total moving violations and/or accidents in the last three years; no more than two serious accidents within the last five years; no record of operating a vehicle while under the influence (OWI); no record of revoked or suspended driver’s license in the last five years; no record of hit and run accidents.

Salary:
$11.36/hour

Residence Requirement:
Within three months of completion of six-month probation period, must reside within an area bordered by the Boone and Story County lines on the north and south, State Highway 65 on the east; and on the west, County Road R27 north of Boone, and the Des Moines River south of Highway 30 to the Boone County line. Communities intersected by the borderlines, and Zearing, shall be considered within the area.
