Photovoltaic/Solar Installation

Get a Photovoltaic Interconnection Agreement here.

NOTE: Because the City's photovoltaic program has the potential to change it is recommended you contact the utility to ensure you are taking into account current rebate, metering, and excess energy payment information.  For technical help call Lyndon Cook at 239-5174 or email lcook@city.ames.ia.us.  For rebate information call Steve Wilson at 239-7177 or email swilson@city.ames.ia.us.

NOTE: Program changes have been made.  As of September 1, 2015 Smart Energy:

  • Added a dehumidifier and electric dryer rebate to the Appliance Rebate Program
  • Removed CFL's from the High Efficiency Lighting Rebate program
  • Will now only rebate electronic ballast and T8's if they replace T12 - 40 watt fluorescent in he High Efficiency Lighting Rebate program
  • Added an air conditioner tune up rebate to the Efficient Air Conditioner Rebate program
  • Changed the minimum qualifying efficiency for an air conditioner from 14 SEER to 15 SEER

Prime Time Power
An air conditioner load management program that lowers the demand for electricity. When the demand for electricity is at its highest, radio-controlled switches are used to cycle central air conditioners off for 7.5 minutes out of every 30 minutes. You will receive a $5 credit on each of your four summer electric bills (July, August, September, and October) when you sign up for Prime Time Power!

Efficient Air Conditioner Rebate
A
n incentive to the residential customer for installing a high-efficiency air conditioner or heat pump.

All air conditioner rebates require the installation of a Prime Time Power switch.
