Small Improvements can make a large difference when it comes to landscape irrigation.

  • Install rain sensors so the landscape is irrigated only when necessary.
  • Do not over-water; turf requires only one inch of water a week.
  • Make sure sprinklers are set to irrigate only in the early morning and evening when evaporation is minimal.
  • When landscaping, plant or request the planting of native plants and arrange them in sections according to water and light needs. This also minimizes maintenance.
  • For individual plants, drip irrigation is the most effective means.

Interior water usage also offers opportunity for conservation.

  • Report leaks in faucets, toilets, and all other water fixtures so they can be repaired promptly.
  • Invest in new ultra-low-flow toilets. Using only 1.3 gallons, some with dual flush capabilities, these toilets flush better than older models which use more water.
