Actions to Take in Flood Event |
June 18, 1998 Flood event
When a flood happens: |
|
| Listen to the radio and be ready with some light packing of a few valuable belongings to evacuate if necessary. | |
| Do not attempt to swim in the flood waters nor to drive over a flooded road! Often during floods, storm sewers are overwhelmed and manhole covers are dislodged. It is possible that a collapsed sewer or broken water main could cause a sinkhole in the road that is hidden by the flood waters. | |
| Unless there's a threat to your own life or someone else's, do not call the Police Department, the Fire Department, or the Water Plant. They are responding to numerous emergencies and need your patience and understanding during a crisis situation. | |
| Once the Emergency Command Team has been mobilized, you can call the City Hall Disaster Hotline at 515-239-5200. Remember that until the disaster team has been activated, this number is answered by the City Manager's Office. | |
