FIRST TIME USERS:
MASTER ACCOUNT:
Customers with multiple accounts can associate their individual accounts with a master account. A master account allows customers to access all of their individual accounts using a single account ID and PIN. A master account is used for gaining access to associated individual accounts; it does not combine the individual accounts into a single utility account.
Instructions for Creating a Master Account
- Your utility account number and your most recent utility bill.

This information is available on both the main portion of your bill and the return portion (bottom third) of your bill. Look under the heading, "Account Information" for your account number, billing date, and due date. Look under either the "Account Balance" or "Amount Due" headings for the total amount due. - On the Welcome to My Account page, click on the "Register My Account" link. You will be taken to a sign-on page. Click on the "Create Pin" button located on the upper left side of the page.
- You will be taken to an Account Registration Page. Enter the account number, billing date, due date and total amount due listed on your most recent utility bill. Then click the “Submit” button. If any of the information is entered incorrectly, a message will display the first item incorrectly entered. Fix that piece of information and click the “Submit” button to continue.
- Enter the Pin you want to use to access your account information. You may use any combination of letters and numbers. PIN's are case sensitive. Then verify your PIN by re-typing it in the verify PIN field.
- Enter a password or PIN Hint.
- Enter your email address. Your email address will be used later to verify your PIN and for future email contacts. Then verify your email address by re-typing it in the verify email address field.
- Click on the "Submit" button. A screen will be displayed with a message letting you know that an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to complete the registration process.
- An email with the subject “City of Ames Utilities Email Address Verification” will be sent to the email address you entered on the Registration page. The email contains a hyperlink for you to click on to complete the registration process. The hyperlink is provided as a complete URL for users that have text only email. AOL users and others with text only email will need to copy and paste the URL into the address box of their web browser to complete the registration process.
- Upon following the hyperlink contained in the email verification, a sign-on page will be displayed. Enter your account number and your PIN and click on the "Sign-on" button to enable your account.
- A notice will be displayed showing that your account has been enabled. This completes the registration process. Click on the "Sign-on" button to access your account. Your account number and PIN will already be entered so all you need to do is click on the "Sign-on" button to access your utility account information.
- In the future, you may access your account by going to My Account and signing in as a registered user.
Internet access provides you with access to information about your utility account 24 hours per day, seven days a week. At your convenience, you can view your account to find the answer to your routine billing or usage question. You can access the following the following information:
Account Information – View your account information, including account status, account balance, last bill sent and last payment received.
Payment History – Display your account’s payment history, including pending payments.
Consumption Report – View your consumption history for each metered service, including last reading, average daily usage, and period usage.
Consumption Summary Graphs – Generate a graph of your consumption during the past three years by type of metered service. Graphs can be displayed by period or by year.
Billing History – View your account billing summary for the previous three years including bill date, due date, balance forward, current charges, and total bill amount. Click a bill date to view a billing statement that provides detailed usage and charge information for that period.
Service Summary – Display the average charges for each type of service. View a graph of your previous twelve months charges by type of service.
Account Maintenance – Change your PIN or email address.
Master Account – If you have multiple utility accounts, you can associate the multiple accounts under a master account. This will allow you to access your multiple accounts via a single sign-on.
