*Identification/licensing: An important gift to your pet, an I.D. tag is a lost pet's only ticket home. Contact a local engraving shop, or pick up order forms at the Ames Animal Shelter.
*Where do I get my pet
spayed/neutered?:
The yellow pages list all the area Veterinary Clinics.

*Mistreatment of animals: Call Animal Control for Ames cases at 515-239-5530, or the Ames Police Department at 515-239-5133. Contact your local or county law enforcement agency if outside of the Ames area. Be as aware of all details and descriptions as you can. Keep notes. And be as anonymous about your identity when you call, as you need to be.
*How do I adopt a Pet?: Visit the Shelter, select and spend time with the animal , then fill out some helpful forms and plan on next day departure! See "Adopt a Pet" section at the top of this web page.
*Lost Pet/Found Pet: Call us at 515-239-5530 24 hours a day and leave a detailed message, or visit during our open hours (see hours and operations section). Advertise in the three local papers of Ames and talk with your neighbors.
