When you adopt a lifetime friend from the
Ames Animal Shelter, you will be given a certificate which provides a partial refund of
the adoption cost back once you have your new pet altered (spayed or neutered) by a
licensed veterinarian. All animals adopted from the Ames Animal Shelter are subject to
mandatory spaying or neutering.
As a new owner, you will also receive an informational packet about your new pet, and a box or leash for transport. Dogs and cats will receive their first deworming, vaccination, and external parasites check up. Some animals may also leave the shelter with luggage left by their former owners. All adoption applications are subject to verification, and to our 24-hour holding policy.
