In the spring of 1995, the Ames Parks & Recreation Department introduced the Adopt a Flower Garden program as part of ongoing community beautification efforts. Although the first season consisted of only 12 gardens, by 2005 the program had blossomed into 52 beautiful park flower gardens throughout the entire city. |

The continuing success of this program can be attributed to the efforts of the volunteer gardeners consisting of individuals, groups and organizations that design, plant and care for the gardens throughout the entire growing season. Along with the generous donations by Holub Garden and Greenhouses of Ames for the thousands of bedding plants needed to fill the numerous beds. |
In order to recognize the volunteer gardeners' contribution, every garden location features a small sign with their name. Also, a short article and photo will be placed on the Garden Page in the Ames Tribune that will feature the different volunteers throughout the summer. |
