The Land Use Policy Plan (LUPP) that guides development in Ames calls for sub-area planning as a tool to implement designated land uses in specific areas of the community. Sub-area planning is different from the type of planning that led to the LUPP in that it deals with a smaller area (sub-area) and can address specific issues and accomplish specific objectives with more detail than the LUPP.
