STBG Applications Available

Post Date:01/17/2018 8:00 AM
The Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act converts the long-standing Surface Transportation Program (STP) into the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG) acknowledging that this program has the most flexible eligibility among all Federal-aid highway programs and aligning the program's name with how the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has historically administered it. The STBG promotes flexibility in State and local transportation decisions and provides flexible funding to best address State and local transportation needs.
The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) administers the STBG regional program for areas within the Ames-Gilbert planning area. To apply for these funds, project sponsors must submit an application to the Ames Area MPO by March 31, 2018. The application for the STBG program are available on the Transportation Improvement Program webpage.

Projects which received Federal funding are required to be in the regional Long Range Transportation Plan (L R T P). The current L R T P is known as Ames Mobility 2040 and was adopted by the M P O Policy Committee in late 2015. Successful applications will be included in the F Y 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program, which will be approved in the Summer of 2018. For additional information, contact Tony Filippini, A.I.C.P., Transportation Planner at 515.239.5169 or at tfilippini@city.ames.ia.us. Applications can be sent to the Ames Area MPO by e-mail
