Ice and Water Rescue

We train for two types of "ice rescue".  One is when there is no ice but extremely cold water, the other is when there is ice.  This type of training has become very important to the City of Ames since the addition of Ada Hayden Heritage Park.

Vehicle Extrication

Extrication equipment is carried on two of our vehicles, Rescue 2 and Rescue 3. Anytime we receive a call for an auto accident we send an engine and a rescue unit.  This helps supply the manpower and equipment needed for most incidents that require extrication.  It is important that we train for the different types of calls we can get, and keep up with the different models of cars that are on the market.

Rope Rescue Training

We have several rope rescue technicians in our department.  The firefighters that are not technicians are trained to be "rope tenders".  We work on our skills every summer.  Many of the skills used in rope rescue are also used in confined space rescue.
